About world dance academy

World Dance Academy is a platform for dance, education, performances, talks, events, battles, and camps. We are Denmark’s leading dance school for authentic cultural dance styles, with a special focus on styles originating from Africa and the Caribbean.

The academy was founded in 2015 as part of the non-profit educational association Global Kidz, which has existed since 2009. From the beginning, the vision has been to create an inclusive community where children and young people can explore both their own and each other’s cultural dances – while gaining confidence, self-esteem, and personal growth. Later, World Dance Academy was established as a department for older dancers who wanted to deepen their practice.

Over the years, Global Kidz & World Dance Academy have gained a significant role in the Danish dance community. We actively work to spread knowledge about the dance styles we represent and to strengthen our connection with the artists and communities we collaborate with. Our work includes events, battles, and development projects that support both the traditional roots and the contemporary movements within youth cultures from Africa and the Caribbean. We work with styles such as Dancehall, Sabar, Ndombolo, Afro House, Coupé Décalé, Amapiano, Afro Fusion, and more.

We are also a workplace for local artists who specialize in authentic cultural dance styles. Through many years of work, we have educated young dancers who are now part of our teaching team and active contributors to Copenhagen’s dance scene. Many of our instructors have a personal cultural background in the dances they teach, while others have learned the styles with deep respect and understanding of their historical and cultural context. We place great value on working with dancers who are strong communicators, possess high artistic standards, and have solid pedagogical skills.

As an organization working with Black dance and culture, we feel a strong responsibility to show respect and give back to the communities where these dance styles originated. That’s why we regularly invite international dancers to Copenhagen, allowing our members, students, and instructors to learn directly from the source – for example, through our Afro Unity Camp and Dancehall Unity Camp.

We aim to create a safe and inspiring space where our members can grow personally, creatively, and technically with support from professional instructors.

With dance at the center, we seek to create opportunities for cultural exchange, where people can meet in positive communities to be themselves and where we demonstrate that diversity is a valuable resource for society.
